    Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 05, 2012 (SKNIS): Governor General His Excellency Sir Cuthbert Sebastian and a delegation from the Federal Cabinet led by Deputy Prime Minister Honourable Sam Condor joined Nevisians in paying final respects to the Honourable Dr. Simeon Daniel, the first Premier of Nevis, at his funeral on Tuesday (June 5).

     

     
    The official service, held at the St Thomas’ Anglican Church in Nevis, was also attended by Senior Minister Honorable Dr. Timothy Harris and Ministers Marcella Liburd, Patrice Nisbett and Nigel Carty as well as other senior government officials from St. Kitts.
      
    Tributes were read by the current Premier of Nevis, the Honorable Joseph Parry, and Senior Partner in the Law Offices of Daniel, Brantley and Associates, Mark Brantley, while his grandchildren and others shared poems and paid their respects in various ways.  
     
    A moving eulogy was given by Victor J. Martin, in which he highlighted the humility and willingness for service of the late Premier. Mr. Martin, also spoke of the contributions of Dr. Daniel that impacted the social and economic landscape of Nevis, in particular his contribution to improving the basic quality of life for Nevisians with reliable water and electricity service, his efforts towards land ownership opportunities and his work in the establishment of the Nevis Financial Services Industry and the Bank of Nevis.  
     
    Mr. Martin shared many of his personal experiences with Dr Daniel as well.  
     
    The service attended by hundreds of Nevisians was described as “a true celebration” of Dr. Simeon Daniel and the legacy he left behind.  The Honorable Dr. Simeon Daniel was laid to rest with official honors rendered by members of the St Kitts-Nevis Defense Force and the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force.
