Miss World St. Kitts and Nevis: “Pageant presents benefits to Federation”

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE 2012 Miss World St. Kitts-Nevis, Markysa O’Loughlin said that she sees her participation in this year’s Miss World Pageant presenting many benefits to the Federation.

“I will be engaging in several promotional activities such as photo shoots and promotional videos that all feature several historically and culturally significant places of interest in St. Kitts-Nevis,” she said.

O’Loughlin said that this type of exposure is needed for the economy which is mainly fueled by our tourist product.

“I take my role as an ambassador in promoting St. Kitts-Nevis as a premier tourist destination very seriously. These pictures and videos will be featured on the Miss World website… as well as other pictures and interviews where promotion of our beautiful federation will be featured in international media such as magazines and pageant journals.”

The Miss World hopeful recently held her launch party titled ‘Legacy’ on June 2, at Cloud 9, which was symbolic of her journey to the world stage.

She dubbed the event ‘Legacy’ and she is hoping to live up to the legacy of many great Kittitians and Nevisians who have made their mark on the world before her entry.

The event garnered major support and was hailed a success, featuring top local talents including Royalties Band, Nicha B, Infamus, Nu Vybes, Firehouse Sounds and Sweet Sister Sensia.

At the event she showcased one of her promotional videos for the pageant which highlights the Federation and its beautiful landscape.

The Miss World Pageant is held under the theme ‘Beauty with a Purpose’. In a previous interview with SKNVibes, O’Loughlin said that delegates actually engage in charitable activities pertaining to children and teens in their home country.

She stated that since the Federation was making a bold move towards energy efficiency, she will be using that as her platform for the pageant.

“This is something that I'm particularly interested in,” she said. “St. Kitts and Nevis is one of the most "green" Caribbean countries and we can benefit greatly from our eco-tourism product for years to come,” she said.

She said this segment carries the most points and her platform or energy efficiency project will involve the Federation's youth.
To ensure that there is a participant in the Miss World Pageant every year from the Federation, O’Loughlin is hoping to one day coordinate a Miss World St. Kitts-Nevis Pageant.

In 2010, Fatisha Imo represented the Federation in the Miss World Pageant and made the Federation proud as she was a finalist in the sporting segment and a semifinalist in the talent segment.

The 62nd Annual Miss World Pageant will be held on August 18 in China.
