Press Release (BVI)

ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, June 6th, 2012    –   The Immigration Department has confirmed that the four Dominican Republic nationals who were taken into custody on June 2 for illegally entering the Territory will be repatriated Thursday, June 7.

The four males were found aboard the M/V St. Vincent, a cargo barge docked at St. Thomas Bay, Virgin Gorda.

In an invited comment, Deputy Chief Immigration Officer Mr. Guy Hill told the Department of Information and Public Relations, the captain of M/V St. Vincent has been cooperative with the Immigration Department and the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, and has indicated he was unaware of the four males boarding the barge.

Mr. Hill said, “The department is thankful for the quick action of those members of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, and are appreciative for those members of the public that keep the department reliably informed. This partnership ensures the continued commitment in protecting this Territory’s borders.”

The Immigration Department is charged with the responsibility to protect and secure the Territory’s borders which is in keeping with Government’s mandate to improve border control security.
