UNESCO Youth Path Partners with Greg’s Safari

Youth Path Participants on Practical Tour Guiding Session with Greg’s Safari
Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 21, 2008 (SKNIS): A practical introduction to Tour Guiding by Greg Pereira of Greg’s Safari left Youth Path Participants feeling bushed but exhilarated.

The youngsters ranging from the ages of 15-25 were participating in an adventure tour geared at exposing them to one aspect of heritage tourism which the UNESCO programme is largely centered around.

Mr. Pereira conducted the Tour Guiding session free of cost and said it was a pleasure for him to be able to contribute in such a tangible way to developing youths in this facet of tourism.

The tour included a visit to the petroglyphs at Bloody River in Bloody Point as well as the Spring at Old Road.

The youth said they were anticipating when they will finish their Rain Forest Tour-Guiding practical in the Rainforest.

Secretary General of the National Commission for UNESCO Mr. Antonio Maynard said he was pleased to have Greg’s Safari lead the way in terms of the eagerness and foresight in partnering with the Youth Path Project in the development of heritage tourism among young people.

He said while tourism has become the leading income generator for many Kittitians and Nevisians, more emphasis must be placed on ensuring that people are aware of the many areas of specialization available.

Mr. Maynard told SKNIS that Mr. Pereira is one of those individuals who grabbed hold of the heritage tourism concept very early and who has not hoarded it but is willing to pass down his expertise for the national good. ~~Adz:Right~~

Mr. Maynard called for more private sector institutions to create meaningful partnerships with Youth Path when called upon. He also said that businesses would be welcome to make first approaches to Youth Path if they can envision ways in which their expertise and resources could be useful.

The Youth Path Project aims at poverty alleviation through tourism and heritage development among youths between the ages of 15-25.
