Statement by Premier Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE
Tenth Sitting of the First Session of the First House Assembly of the Virgin Islands
    “East End/Long Look Water Supply”

    Tuesday, 22nd July, 2008

~~Adz:Right~~ROADTOWN, Tortola-Cabinet on Wednesday 16th July, 2008, set up a Cabinet Committee to negotiate with Ocean Conversion Ltd. for the supply of potable water to the East End/Long Look area.  This area has suffered for a reliable and dependable supply of potable water for several years and although attempts have been made to remedy this situation, it still remains a problem.

    The Cabinet Committee consists of:

    1. Deputy Premier and Representative for the Eighth District
    Honourable Dancia Penn-Sallah, QC,
    2. Minister for Education and Culture and Representative for the first District Honourable Andrew A. Fahie
    3. Premier, the Honoable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE,
Representative for the Ninth (9th) District.

The committee is asked to submit a report to Cabinet by the end of July and the Director of Ocean Conversion Ltd. was written to on Friday 18th July, 2008 and the urgency of this matter was explained to him and as soon as he replied, the negotiations will begin.

It is expected that the discussions will be free and fair and with mutual respect for both sides and possibly keep the purpose of the negotiation always in mind that getting a dependable supply of potable water for East End/Long Look at a satisfactory price both to consumer and the supplier.  East End/Long Look is the largest settlement outside of Road Town.
