BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (FEBRUARY 14TH 2004) – Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Six, Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Denzil L. Douglas, is pleased with the progress being made on Phase Two of the Saddlers Sporting Complex.
Following an inspection of the pavilion now being constructed, Dr. Douglas said he is looking forward to the official completion date of the project in April this year.
He noted Phase One of the project was completed a few years ago with the preparation of the new playing field which now caters for cricket, football, netball and athletics.
“What we have being built is the pavilion with change rooms, bathroom facilities, commentary booth for football and a separate one being built for cricket; a VIP Lounge, a bar, kitchenette and a dining room which can be used as an auditorium for those who would want to use that facility,” Dr. Douglas told his Communications Unit.
Dr. Douglas noted that when financing becomes available, the roof of the pavilion will be converted into a large community center.
“It will house a library, an auditorium and a computer lab, so that the young people and the residents of the community on a whole would have a truly multi-purpose sporting and community complex,” said Dr. Douglas, who pointed out that the facility would also be used as a hurricane shelter if the need arises.
Dr. Douglas said the residents of Saddlers and the sporting community in particular can look forward to a structure that will not only enhance the continued development of sports in the community, but would also be available to the entire sports loving community of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Accompanied on the tour by Public Works officer with responsibility for the project, Mr. Carl Francis, resident, Mr. John Mills, Sports Officer, Mr. Orville Maynard and Lennox Warner Construction foreman, Kenneth Gumbs, Prime Minister Douglas used the occasion to commend Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, the Hon. Jacinth Henry-Martin “for again delivering on one of the important projects for the development of young people in St. Kitts and Nevis.”
“This is just yet another of what she has produced in order to carry forward the Labour Government’s policy of enhancing and empowering the development of our young people,” said Prime Minister Douglas, who also commended the contractor Mr. Lennox Warner and the other workers for the good job over the past three months.
Thanks were also expressed to Mr. Carl Francis for the supervision of the project which is on scheduled. |
