Over 500 persons trained at National Information and Communications Technology Centre, PM Douglas hails training of industrial site workers

Prime Minister Douglas said not only are persons with a secondary and tertiary level education has access to training at the newly-established National Information and Communications Technology Center, but also workers on the industrial estates who are trained free of cost.

He said with the completion of the establishment of computer labs in both primary and secondary schools and the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College, the Republic of China on Taiwan-financed National Information and Communications Technology Centre at the C.A. Paul Southwell Industrial Park, has trained over 500 persons in the past seven months.

“Some 143 civil servants have been trained in e-administration or e-government, Webmail, Website, SPSS Course and Word, Excel, Access – Fundamentals for Works.  Twenty (20) teachers have been trained in Capacity Building for Technology in Schools; 45 persons from the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College have been trained in Creating E-Commerce Websites; and 40 workers from the industrial sites have been trained in Word processing, Spreadsheets, Databases, etc,” Dr. Douglas, who is also Minister of Information and Technology disclosed. ~~Adz:Right~~

“We are bringing this important facility and tool of information communication technology to the entire population. It must have access not only to those who can boast of a secondary and tertiary level education, but those persons who are the ordinary workers on the industrial estates. My government’s intention is to ensure that with this new facility, every man, woman and child on St. Kitts and Nevis, must have access and training in information technology as we move this country forward together so that we can become a more competitive nation and educated people to make his or her individual contribution in the transformation that is necessary as we move St. Kitts and Nevis from a Third World status to a First World status,” said Prime Minister Douglas.

Over 20 retired and/or unemployed persons have also taken the Introduction to Microsoft Excel course at this center, as well as individuals from the private sector who have been trained at the center in HTLM.
 
The Social Security Board, the College, and private individuals have all taken courses in Adobe Dreamweaver/Webpage Development, Introduction to Computers, Microsoft Suite Applications; Electronic Filing Documentation, International Computer Drivers License; Introduction to Microsoft Excel and Web Development. Web Application and Web Programming.

The National Information and Communications Technology Center has also trained 5th grade primary school children in various computer-related disciplines.
