~~Adz:Left~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Two juveniles are getting a taste of prison life as castigation for committing a larceny-related offence.

The 14 and 15-year-olds appeared in Juvenile court where they were tried for a May 27, 2008 offence of “house breaking and larceny”.

According to the Police’s account of the incident, “At about 12:35 p.m., the quick response of the Police led to the capture of the two juveniles after the security alarm at the home of the Pennyfeather’s at Taylor’s Range was activated. The Police surrounded the house and made a thorough search of the property and found both juveniles hiding in a cistern. They were each carrying backpacks which contained electronic items and a sum of money stolen from the house.”

They were convicted of the offence and sentenced to serve three months at Her Majesty’s Prison.

A $1 000 fine could be imposed on a juvenile who appeared at Juvenile Court on a charge of “possession of cannabis”. He was convicted and placed on a six-month bond to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. Failure to adhere to the court’s orders would result in the 17-year-old having to pay the $1 000 fine.
