Nigeria national on trial for fraud

By: Jenise Ferlance, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A national of Nigeria is currently facing up to charges that were laid against him since early 2008.

Twenty-four-year-old Baba Tunde Dami Lola Alonge was charged with fraud and obtaining property by false pretence, offences that were committed on April 1 to 3, 2008.

The trial began yesterday (Jun. 11) with the prosecution team being led by Junior Counsel Garth Wilkin, while Senior Counsel John Cato is representing Alonge.

The prosecution, which rested yesterday, called five witnesses to help their case as they tried to prove that on the days in question Alonge went to the General Post Office in Basseterre and knowingly cashed three counterfeit United Stated Postal Services International Money Orders valuing EC$5 565 total.

The case continues today (Jun.12) with the defence presenting it's argument.
