BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE paintball action is heating up in St. Kitts and getting more exciting with the hosting of tournaments.
The SK Paintball Experience located at Beacon Heights recently, on June 10, held a 3vs3 Tournament where five teams competed. The Ross University team was triumphant while a local group placed second.
According to entrepreneur and Reserve Officer of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force, Lieutenant Regiwell Francis, the event was exciting and it was all together a fun afternoon.
He said that the winning team received Blackberry curves while the second place winner received Top ups.
All participants received a T-shirt and tokens for the Royal Beach Casino.
Francis said that there will be another tournament on June 23, where this time there will be 16 teams all coming from the Ross University.
The teams will be competing against each other in groups of five.
Paintball is a sport in which players compete in teams or individually to eliminate opponents by tagging them with capsules containing a water soluble dye within a gelatin shell propelled from a device called a paintball marker (commonly referred to as a paintball gun).
The game is often played at a sporting level with organised competition involving worldwide leagues, tournaments, professionals and also amateurs. It tests the accuracy, maneuverability, fitness and offensive as well as defensive strategies of its competing participants.
Additionally, this technology is used by military forces, law enforcement, para-military and security organisations to supplement military training, riot response, and non-lethal suppression of dangerous suspects.
SK Paintball first operated in New Guinea but on April 6 the sport was moved to its official home at Dewars, near Beacon Heights.
In a previous interview, Francis explained that he was motivated to make paintball a game open to the public, because he and a group of friends came together and decided to play the game on a regular basis and eventually the numbers began growing.
A special is now being offered where persons can pay EC$100 for a month and will only have to pay EC$25 for the other times they attend throughout the month.
SK paintball is open from Thursdays to Sundays from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Friday persons can enjoy music, drinks and barbeque.
