BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - BABA TUNDE DAMI LOLA ALONGE was yesterday (Jun. 13) found guilty on three counts of false pretence with intent to defraud, charges that were laid against him since early 2008.
The 24-year-old was charged with offences that were committed on April 1 to 3, 2008.
The prosecution team which was led by Junior Counsel Garth Wilkin was successful in proving that Alonge went to the General Post Office in Basseterre and knowingly cashed three counterfeit United Stated Postal Services International Money Orders valuing EC$5 565 total.
The trial began on Monday (Jun. 11) with Senior Counsel John Cato is representing Alonge.
The prosecution called five witnesses to help prove their case while the only person to give evidence for the defence was Alonge who claimed he was offered a part-time job by someone called Rodney Welsh who sent him a number of US Money Orders which he was instructed to cash and send to Satina Harris in Chicago.
The jury, who deliberated for over two hours yesterday brought back 11-1 guilty verdicts on all three counts.
