    Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 28, 2012 (SKNIS): The Ministry of International Trade in St. Kitts and Nevis has coordinated with the CARICOM Secretariat’s CSME Unit to host a four day country mission to the Federation.

     


    The main task of the mission slated for June 18-21, is to conduct a national CSME awareness and sensitization programme to increase the level of awareness and involvement of citizens to the various facets of the CSME and the benefits to be derived in it. It will also focus on how the CSME works; with specific reference to the various provisions governing the removal of restrictions for the free movement of goods, services, people, capital and business operations across the region. 

    The programme will also entail a number of focus group sessions with government ministries, private sector organizations, media houses, other key stakeholders, as well as a panel discussion for the general public.

    Four days of sessions will be facilitated by the Ministry of International Trade along with a team from the CSME Unit comprising of Programme Manager Mr. Ivor Carryl, Skills/Labour Free Movement Specialist Mr. Steven MacAndrew, Deputy Programme Manager – Economic Development Policy & Research Ms. Enid Bissember, Deputy Programme Manager – Services Mr. Timothy Odle, Deputy Programme Manager – Single Market & Economy (Free Movement of Goods) Mr. Norris Breedy and Private Sector Facilitation Specialist Ms. Leela Ramoutar.

    A Press briefing will also be held on Wednesday June 20 at 2:30 p.m. to discuss the role that the media can play in promoting the CARICOM Single Market and Economy as well as draw attention to the critical issues that may be impeding the progress of this regional integration arrangement.
