2011-2012 cruise season successfully ends

Port Zante Marina
Press Release (SCASPA)

Basseterre, St. Kitts – June 21st, 2012 (SCASPA): SCASPA recently closed a successful 2011 – 2012 cruise season, with an impressive 251 calls and a total of 671,330 passengers throughout the months of October 2011 to May 2012.

Multiple highlights defined the 2011 – 2012 cruise season as an outstanding one for SCASPA and the Federation. In December 2011, SCASPA welcomed Mein Schiff 2, the German cruise ship owned by TUI Cruises on its second visit to Port Zante. The ship had a capacity of about 2000 passengers. Also in December 2011, SCASPA welcomed the world’s largest cruise ship, the Allure of the Seas.

The 225,282 ton, 5400 passenger vessel’s inaugural visit was a historical one for the island. Another highlight occurred in May 2012 when Port Zante welcomed their Royal Highnesses the Earl and Countess of Wessex to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

According to Cruise Operations Manager of SCASPA, Mr. Loui Hendrickson, “It was an impressive season and all went well considering some of the challenges we had to face especially the bad weather conditions. Our marine division especially our pilots along with the berthing officers worked exceptionally well to safely berth every ship that called. That was a great achievement. The figures are indeed encouraging despite the cancellation of a number of calls scheduled for the season.”

With the ending of the Cruise Season, the department will focus on enhancing Port Zante’s arrival hall to provide a more enticing and warmer environment to its varied customers.

SCASPA looks forward to an even better cruise season for the 2012-2013 year.
