BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE two individuals who were to appear at the Basseterre High Court today (June 21) will have to wait another week before learning their fate as their sentencing hearing has been postponed.
Kemron Murray and Dale Hazell will now be sentenced next Tuesday (June26).
The sentencing was postponed in order to accommodate the final leg of the case against former Police Constable Kern Cabey who is on trial for endangering life and enabling another to endanger life.
Murray, who was charged with housebreaking and larceny, was on May 9 unanimously found guilty of the offence that was committed on April 29, 2011.
According to the facts of the case, sometime between 12:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on that day, Murray broke into and entered the dwelling house of Mansfield James from which he stole a number of canned foods.
The items stolen were one tin corned beef, one tin salmon, one tin Vienna sausage, one tin baked beans, one tin sliced carrots and one tin apple juice, all to the value of EC$50.
Murray was unrepresented at trial and opted not to testify on his own behalf or call witnesses to give evidence.
Hazell, on the other hand, was originally charged with one count of burglary, one count of larceny and one count of receiving a black and silver Dell laptop, US$280 and EC$70 on February 10, 2012.
He, however, pleaded guilty to the receiving charge and had the other two charges dropped.
Next week's sentencing will be the second to be held since the opening of the May 2012 Criminal Assizes. The first was held on May 17.
