BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – CONTESTANTS competing in this year’s Miss Culture, Miss Culture Swimwear and Mr. Kool shows were revealed to a large crowd on Friday afternoon, (June 22) in Nevis.

Six are competing for the Miss Culture Pageant title: Ronice Williams, Mikaihlia Lawrence, Teshyna David, Grace Percival, Faith Daniel and Denesia Smithen, while five will compete for the Miss Culture Swimwear title; Shinell Hobson, Tera Griffin, Franale Holder, Tamerelle Browne and Roslyn Berkeley.

There will be four contestants in this year’s Mr. Kool Show; Loronzo Phillip, Reece Walters, Daquani Newton and Kevin Adams.

There has been no mention of changes in the Miss Culture Swimwear and Mr. Kool shows but according to a press release, the new Miss Culture Pageant subcommittee chairperson, Jáedee Caines, some changes will be made to the Miss Culture show.

The contestants in the Miss Culture Pageant will this year be showcased in swimwear for the opening number which will not be judged, while an onstage interview has been added.

“We want our contestants to be ready for any and everything. We want them to face their fears and realise that wearing swimsuits has become an expected and accepted part of pageantry. This year, we want the full package. Our queens should speak well, dress well, and look well. They should think like queens even before the pageant,” she stated.

She also said that the Nevisian Pride Presentation is designed to educate the judges and audience on various aspects of Nevisian history and culture.

“As a requirement, each contestant would be required to deliver a prepared speech on one of the island’s historical sites,” Caines said.

The reigning Miss Culture, Santonnya Mills will give up her crown on July 31 while Sidamo Jones and Nadaski Percival, the 2011 Miss Culture Swimwear and Mr. Kool respectively will give up their crowns July 29.

This year marks the 38th Anniversary of the Culturama Celebrations.
