Machel Montano Returns To St. Kitts Music Festival

Press Release

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, June 20th, 2012): Machel Montano and Team HD will climax a spectacular lineup of Caribbean music on the opening night  of the 16th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival, which takes place on Thursday June 28th to Saturday June 30th, 2012.

One of Montano’s biggest local fans is Minister of Tourism & International Transport, Senator Ricky Skerritt, who said he is expecting a great performance from Machel Montano, when he performs on Thursday. “I expect that Montano will do what he has done every time he has performed in St. Kitts in the past – electrify the crowd and make an indelible mark on the event”, the Tourism Minister said. “Machel is no stranger to the St. Kitts Music Festival, as this would be his fourth appearance in sixteen years, and it is not by accident that we keep inviting him back.”

The first night of the Music Festival is traditionally known as the “jump up night” due to the exhilarating mix of soca music featured, to fittingly launch the three-night Festival into action.

Machel, who is widely regarded as the “Soca King of the World” is expected to thrill the audience with his high energy, fast-paced, and often unpredictable on-stage presence. Fans all over the world clamor to his performances  to jump and wave to many of his successful singles such as “Big Truck”, “Outa Space”, “Music Farm”, “It’s Carnival” and “Jumbie”.

Machel is the reigning back-to-back International Power Soca Monarch and the Groovy Soca Monarch.  He further topped off the Carnival Season in Trinidad & Tobago, by winning the Road March Title with “Pump Yuh Flag”.

Also, another world-renowned soca act, Edwin Yearwood and Krosfyah, will also be performing on that Thursday, along with Spectrum Band out St. Thomas. That first night will also see St. Kitts’ top acts performing including the Road March champions Grand Masters, Nicha B, Ali Dee and Shakki Starfire.

Six-time Grammy Award winner Toni Braxton is the headline act for the “Sweet 16” St. Kitts Music Festival, which also includes Roberta Flack, Damian Marley, Courtney Pine, Omarion, Morgan Heritage, I-Octane and Popcaan.

Now in its 16th year, the St. Kitts Music Festival attracts both locals and visitors alike. It features a wide range of musical styles on the popular market, including R&B, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Soca, Calypso, Gospel and Contemporary music. Past artists have included such prominent acts as John Legend, T-Pain, Michael Bolton, K.C. and the Sunshine Band, UB40’s Ali Campbell, Wyclef Jean, Ne-Yo, Air Supply, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, The Commodores, Dionne Warwick, Billy Ocean, Sean Paul, Boyz II Men, King Konris, Stephen Marley, Regina Belle, Maxi Priest, Biggie Irie, Bunny Wailer and Lord Nelson.
