Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WHILE the contributions of those who attend are valued, other persons are being encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities to attend Police Town Hall Meetings and express their concerns to those who may be better able to address them.

Since last December, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has held a number of town hall meetings around the island with a view to increasing the Police’s presence in communities as well as garnering from the public, their concerns relative to the Police and the fight against crime.

Head of the Police Force’s Press and Public Relations Office Inspector Cromwell Henry, in an exclusive interview with SKNVibes, explained that the force is satisfied with the contributions of those persons who attend the meetings. He further explained that these contributions enable the Police Force to address issues pertinent to the improvement of, among other things, the police/public partnership.

“While the attendance could be better, we are satisfied with those who attend. They participate, they are candid, they are forthright and they are not reluctant to speak out about what they see as short comings in the Police’s behaviour in their communities and their districts. In some cases, they do complement the Police; it’s not all negative. They are some positive comments from residents about the Police performance in their district.”

The next meeting takes place this evening at the Saddlers Primary School at 7:30 and will be attended by the Police High Command, Head of the Criminal Investigation Department and the Prime Minister of the Federation, the Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas as well as a representative from the main opposition party.

Henry issued a word of encouragement for members of the Saddlers and surrounding communities to attend the meeting, as it is an opportunity for them to express their concerns on crime-related matters.

“It is not every day that an opportunity such as this arises, so I urge all to take advantage of it and let us know what your concerns are and, having heard these concerns, we would be in a better position to deal with them. We are encouraging residents in the Saddlers and surrounding communities to attend the meeting and interact with the panel and air their views and concerns and satisfy themselves that the Police are doing their best to ensure safety and security of the community and its members.”
