New US Ambassador To Barbados And The Eastern Caribbean Presents Credentials In Antigua And Barbuda

    ST. JOHN'S  Antigua, June 27th, 2012  --  On the occasion of the Presentations of Credentials to the Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda, the new United States Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean H. E. Larry Palmer, held meetings with the Hon. Dr. Winston Baldwin Spencer and the Hon. Harold Lovell, Minister of Finance, Economy and Public Administration.

     


    During their deliberations at a special dinner meeting held on Sunday night, Prime Minister Spencer took the opportunity to welcome Ambassador Palmer to Antigua and Barbuda and pledged his country’s continued desire to maintaining good relations with the United States.

    PM Spencer discussed various matters including a speedy resolution regarding the WTO matter between Antigua and Barbuda and the United States of America, security issues, legislative matters and the issue of resolutions pertaining to Antigua and Barbuda which were taken before the U.S Congress.

    Ambassador Palmer also held talks with the Hon. Harold Lovell in his capacity as Acting Prime Minister and expressed his delight and honour to visit Antigua and Barbuda and the importance of ensuring that the two countries continue to build on their good relations.  According to Ambassador Palmer, the US embassy will continue to focus its efforts on providing support for activities designed to empower all citizens, particularly women and young people.

    Minister Lovell welcomed and expressed his congratulations to His Excellency on his appointment as Ambassador to the Eastern Caribbean, and looks forward to working together with the US Embassy to ensure mutual benefits for both countries.  Minister Lovell also informed the Ambassador that efforts are on the way to arrive at a final settlement regarding the long outstanding World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute between the two countries.  Ambassador Palmer expressed his county’s desire to see a resolution to this matter.

    His Excellency also held meetings with Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Lester Bird.
    Ambassador Palmer was accompanied by Political Officer of the Embassy of the United States, Kristin Mencer.
