Limitless pays tribute to Masud at Music Festival

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Limitless Band paid tribute to one of its founding members last evening (June 29) – the late Kevin ‘Masud Sadiki’ Donavon – during the first night of the 16th annual St. Kitts Music Festival.

Masud – this publication understands – was listed amongst the artistes scheduled to appear on the first night of the Music Festival. Unfortunately, he departed for the ‘Great Beyond’ on May 21.

Prior to the band’s appearance, Minister of Sports and Constituency Representative for the area in which Masud lived – the Honourable Glen Phillip – moved onto the stage and prompted the audience to observe one minute of silence in honour of the deceased artiste.

And with a strum of the guitar, a knock of the drums and the holding of a cord on the keyboard, Limitless began, bringing back to memory snippets of Masud’s body of work.

The conscious artiste always portrayed a positive vibe, be it through his music or his personality, and was responsible for penning many a song including ‘Stitch in Time’ and ‘Love for me Mama’.

The words of the latter were altered somewhat and rather than singing of a matriarchal figure, Limitless spoke of Masud when they expressed “Love for me brother can’t done”.

They also rendered parts of Masud’s ‘Courage to Change’, ‘Come Ah Me Yard’ and ‘A Wonder How’.

The mood during the tribute seemed mixed. Reflective yet festive; reflective of Masud and all that he represented and festive because of the legacy he left behind.

During the 2010/2011 Carnival Festivities, Masud – a reggae artiste - threw his hat into the calypso/soca ring and released an album which included the song ‘Party Hearty- Me No Tired’.

That song was the final one performed by Limitless in honour of Masud’s memory.

“Rest in peace my brother, Masud Sadiki. We will always love you,” were the words uttered by one of the vocalists of the band just before the tribute ended.
