Government diligently working to solve sewerage problems

    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, June 29th, 2012  --  The people of the Virgin Islands can soon expect to see improvements to the sewerage system in Road Town, now that Government is vigorously forging ahead with Phase Two of the National Sewerage Project Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Mark Vanterpool who witnessed the signing, in his remarks, re-affirmed Government’s commitment to fixing the sewerage problems in the Territory. 

     

    In a contract signing on Wednesday, Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE, signed a contract on behalf of Government with Mr. Patrick Mitchell of BIO Safe Treatment and Septic Solutions totalling $163,967 to supply and install new pumps for the Road Town pump station. 
     
    He said, “Sewage solution is one of the highest priorities of Government and over the next several years particular attention will be paid to East End and Road Town.”
     
    The Minister explained that the upgrades to the pump station will increase its efficiency, prevent overflows, and curtail the odour currently being experienced. Also included in Phase II, is the installation of 21-inch lines along
     
    Waterfront Drive and roundabout to replace existing eight and 10- inch lines.
     
    According to the project manager, Mr. Sam McIntosh of CBE Engineering and Associates, the firm charged with the management of the National Sewerage Project, “Work on Phase II of the project will begin in the coming weeks and will be centralised along the main road in the vicinity of the roundabout.”
     
    He said when works begin residents can expect traffic interruptions. However, he disclosed that most of the work be carried out at night to reduce traffic delays.
     
     
     
    Phase I, which concluded in early June, saw the installation of approximately 1400 feet of pipeline and 14 manholes. The installation works was focused in the vicinity of the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park extending to Vanterpool Enterprises Limited.
     
    The Ministry of Communications and Works is committed to the continued development and maintenance of the Territory’s public infrastructure.
