Angostura looking to crown local cocktail Champion for 2012

Kendie Brown The 2011 local Winner
Press Release (C&C)

US$1000 and representation at regional competition at stake

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS - 4th July, 2012 - The date has been set for the Annual Angostura Mixmaster Cocktail Challenge.   On Friday 27th July, cocktail aficionados and others will witness keen competition in cocktail mixology at a most fitting venue - the Rum Barrel on Port Zante.

Sponsored by Angostura through its local agents C&C Trading Ltd, the Bartenders’ competition will turn the spotlight on the men and ladies behind the bar.  Interested persons may sign up through the Hotel and Tourism Association.  Experience as a bartender in a hotel, restaurant  or bar or even privately is the only qualification for entrants willing to register for this contest.

“We look forward to this event every year which has as its main prize US$1000 for the person whose cocktail is given the “sip of approval.”

Beyond local bragging rights however, the winner will go on to represent St. Kitts and Nevis in the regional competition in Antigua, so there is added opportunity  to demonstrate this fine craft of mixing cocktails,” explained Keithley Phillip, C&C Trading’s Sales and Marketing Manager.

Each contestant is required to make two drinks – one rum-based and the other a free style cocktail.  Both drinks must incorporate Angostura products all of which are provided by the sponsors and organizers.  Bartenders are expected to provide glassware and garnishes.  Judges for this competition will be selected by the HTA.

Last year’s local winner was Kendie Browne, of the Four Seasons Hotel.  She proudly represented the Federation in the regional competition in Jamaica, placing third.

The winner of the regional competition will represent the region at the Global Cocktail Competition which will be held on Carnival Sunday in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago next year.

The grand prize for the Global Cocktail Champion is US$10,000.  Additionally, the global winner will be offered a one year contract to be the official global brand ambassador for Angostura aromatic bitters.
