Local UNESCO National Commission Secretary General Mr. Antonio Maynard at Interregional Training Seminar for New Secretaries General for UNESCO held at UNESCO Headquarters, Paris |
Basseterre, St. Kitts (March 02, 2005): Local UNESCO National Commission Secretary General Mr. Antonio Maynard has returned from the Interregional Training Seminar for New Secretaries General for UNESCO held at UNESCO Headquarters, Paris from February 21 to 25, 2005.
The seminar, which was organized by the Division of Relations with National Commissions and New Partnerships (ERC/NCP), had the objective of providing newly appointed Secretaries General with updated information on UNESCO Commission strategy. Participants were also brought up to date on UNESCOs major programmes, reform processes that help in the discharge of duties as well as responsibilities that are in the best interest of the realization of the organizations objectives.
According to Mr. Maynard the seminar also enabled participants to exchange experiences and views on roles and functions of National Commissions and develop cooperation among each other. He further revealed that over 40 global member states were represented at the training seminar.
Primarily, the St. Kitts and Nevis Secretary General said that the training will assist him in further implementing UNESCO programmes of activities in the Federation.
In addition, he said the seminar will enable him to make adequate preparations for the National Commissions General Conference which will be held at UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, in October of this year. He explained that the global conference will be attended by Ministers of Government responsible for UNESCO, Commission Secretaries General, permanent delegates and members of the Executive Board as well as potential board members. Biennial elections will also take place at this years conference.
