Police/Court Round-Up - Female and male facing rape charges

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A number of persons were on Monday (July 2) convicted at the Basseterre Magistrates’ Court for various offences, and on the same day police had arrested and charged four others, among whom is a female facing a rape charge.

     

    Information coming out of the Police Public Relations Office states that on Monday (July 2) Bookeem Martin of Taylors was found guilty at the Basseterre Magistrates’ Court for larceny and receiving.

     

    He was sentenced to six months in prison with hard labour and was ordered to pay compensation to the tune of EC$500 within one month, and if in default would have to serve a further six-month imprisonment.

     

    At the said court and on the same day, Jason Pemberton of Lower Monkey Hill was convicted for battery, which he had committed on June 28, 2012.

     

    He was placed on bond in sum of $2 000 to keep the peace and be on good behaviour for 18 months, and also to complete 100 hours community service that has to be completed by August 31, 2012. He was also ordered to not interfere with the victim.

     

    And Llwellyn Webbe of Cayon, who also appeared at the Basseterre Magistrates’ Court on Monday, was convicted for battery and fined EC$800 to be paid in two months or serve one month at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    The offence was committed at the Potential Bar on November11, 2011.

     

    According to the police communiqué, a male and a female were arrested and charged on Monday (July 2) for rape which they allegedly committed on Thursday, June 21, 2012.

     

    The female was also charged with indecent assault which she allegedly committed on the following day.

     

    Two other men, Steadmon Adams and Kelvin George, were also charged on Monday (July 2).

     

    Adams, who resides at Buckley’s, was formally arrested, charged and cautioned for possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply and cultivation of cannabis; while George, a resident of Douglas Street, Newtown, was arrested, charged and cautioned for carrying abroad an offensive weapon, battery on police and resisting arrest.

     

    Meanwhile, the Nevis Division of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force had conducted an operation nicknamed “Operation Pullover” on Monday (July 2), during which 117 vehicles were stopped for various traffic violations.

     

    According to the communiqué, “Six tickets were issued and several persons were warned and alerted of offences. Offences for which tickets were issued were: one for permitting a student to drive when he does not own Instructor's permit, one for not wearing a seatbelt, three for driving without a valid driver's licence and one for driving an unlicenced vehicle.”
