Press Release

ST. JOHN'S Antigua,  July 5th, 2012  --  Members of the Rattlers Cycling Club on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on Minister of Education, Sports, Youth and Gender Affairs Dr. Jacqui Quinn-Leandro.

The team’s visit was to thank the minister for providing sponsorship, in the form of airline tickets to Grenada to participate in the Green Fathers’ Day Classic, held from June 15-18, 2012.

Minister Quinn-Leandro in welcoming the all male team said she was “willing and ready to assist local athletes in their quest to represent Antigua and Barbuda. Cyclists have done Antigua proud in the past, and I (minister) whenever possible, stand ready to assist.”

Rattlers Cycling Club captained by Jyme Bridges, emerged overall winners of the three stage Green Fathers’ Day Classic.  The Antiguan team, which also included Clint Henry and Omari King secured first in the time trial, second in the circuit race and third in the road race. But their combined performance was enough to secure the overall win.

Speaking on behalf of the team, Omarie King said they were confident going into the race.

“With Bridges being the defending champion, we went into the race with a game plan to win the time trial, thereby gaining the lead and maintaining the point standings in the other two races.”

King thanked the many sponsors for their support, which gave them the opportunity to represent the country overseas.

“We will keep representing Antigua and Barbuda to the best of our ability in the years to come,” Omarie King noted.

The other members present at Wednesday’s courtesy call on Minister Quinn-Leandro were Tesheed Gordon, Cosmos Richardson and Collin James.
