    New BVI Health Services Authority Board has Important Role

     


    Minister of Health and Social Development

     

    Roadtown Tortola: Friday, August 1 – The Ministry of Health and Social Development is looking forward to the improved management of the health sector under the guidance of the new BVI Health Services Authority Board. Local lawyer and former Financial Secretary Mr. Glenroy Forbes was recently appointed as the Board’s Chairman.

     

    Other members are Mr. Clarence Faulkner Jr., who will serve as Deputy Chairman, Mr. Cromwell Smith, Dr. Dantae Davies, Mr. Maurice Lettsome, Mrs. Ethel Spaan, Dr. Joel Stevens, Dr. Errol Waldron, and Mr. Frederick Creque.

     

    Among other areas of responsibility, the BVI Health Services Authority Board aims to improve the general administration and functioning of Peebles Hospital along with the delivery of other community health services throughout the Territory in areas like mental health, dental services, and at district clinics. In addition, it oversees and directs the overall affairs and operations of the health services.  ~~Adz:Right~~

     

    Minister of Health and Social Development Honourable Dancia Penn, OBE, QC, has given the assurance that Government remains committed to improving the management of the health sector to make it more innovative and creative. “The new Board must play a central role in ensuring that our vision for the delivery of accessible and affordable world-class primary, secondary, and tertiary health care services is realised. As such, its members have an extremely important role,” she said.

     

    The Minister also expressed her sincere gratitude to the new board members for their willingness to serve the people of the Territory in this significant area.

     

    The Board is responsible for developing a marketing plan that would promote the local health services and attract individuals to utilise those services with a view to creating a fruitful partnership, while at the same time encouraging involvement with the community that will serve the best interests of both the authority and the community.

     

    In accordance with a recent Cabinet decision, the new board members will serve for an initial period of one year with effect from 1st April 2008.

     

    The BVI Health Services Authority was established under the BVI Health Services Authority Act, 2004. Its functions include the recruitment, appointment, training, promotion and disciplining, along with the power to suspend and terminate employment of staff members.
