BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ST. KITTS and Nevis reigning National Carnival Queen, Kalia Huggins captured the Best Evening Wear Appearance at the 2012 Miss Carival Pageant held last evening, (July 6) in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The winner of the pageant was Miss St. Lucia, Roxanne Didier Nicholas. Carice Glasgow of St. Vincent won the first runner-up position while Davia Chambers of Trinidad secured second runner-up.
Along with the crown Miss St. Lucia won the talent appearance, St. Vincent won the Best in swim wear and Miss Trinidad and Tobago won Best Interview.
There were non-judged categories where Miss Community Spirit was awarded to Olufunmike Majorie Banks Devonish of Anguilla, Miss Congeniality went to Astrid Andrena Hidalgo Martinez of Venezuela and Miss Photogenic to Charlene Christmas of Barbados.
A total of 10 contestants competed for the crown which is in its 27th year and was held under the theme ‘Miss Carival 2012 – 27 Years of Exquisite Pageantry – 1985-2012’.
Former National Carnival Queen, Iantavian Queeley, took her final walk as Miss Carival 2011-2012, in a lovely blue gown before crowning her new successor.
Another pageant is on the way, in which Queeley, being the reigning queen, will crown a new successor --Miss Jaycees Caribbean - will be held in Antigua in a few weeks.
At last year’s pageant, Queeley captured all of the judged segments adding another crown to her glittering reign.
Huggins will represent the Federation in this pageant along with other Caribbean countries.
The First Citizens Group Miss Carival Beauty Pageant is to foster greater linkages and bonds between the many islands, to encourage contestants, chaperones and persons attending the pageant to return to St. Vincent and the Grenadines and to showcase the beauty and diversity of Caribbean young women.
