BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JASON ROGERS, one of the Federation’s sprinters who will be vying for a medal at the upcoming London Olympics, was named the fastest under 23 athlete in North and Central America as well as in the Caribbean.
This feat was accomplished yesterday (July 6) in Guanajuato, Mexico when he clocked 10.06 seconds in the 100m to claim gold at the 2012 North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Under 23 Championship.
According to St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletic Association’s Public Relations Officer Evris Huggins, Rogers’ time at the meet is an Olympic ‘A’ qualifier which also positions him as the second fastest male athlete in the history of the twin-island Federation – “second only to his coach and training partner Kim Collins”.
In the preliminaries, Rogers advanced to the finals after placing second behind Jarnol James of Trinidad and Tobago with a time of 10.20 seconds, which was his previous best at this distance.
Another of the Federation’s athletes, Lestrod Roland, had also advanced to the finals but finished eight. He is however aiming to give his fans a better performance in the 200m.
Results of the race are as follow:
1st Jason Rogers of Saint Kitts & Nevis 10.06 0.9
