BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Antioch Baptist Church (ABC) has a packed schedule of activities coming up from July 16-27 and they are inviting the general public to be a part of it.

A Health and Fitness Festival, a Vacation Bible School (VBS) and various workshops and activities are the means by which the church intends to bring the gospel to the people and they are asking for the support of the general public.

Last year a Fine Arts festival was held and this time around the focus is on health, according to Pastor Linkoln Connor of the ABC.

He said everything will officially begin on July 16 with the Vacation Bible School hosted by the church, and will end on July 27.

Pastor Connor informed that the Vacation Bible School has been running since 1966.

“Vacation Bible School has come a long way; there were not many activities back then as there are now and it was seen as  a bridge between school and summer for the children,” he said. “It’s something we look forward to each year. It’s a heavy investment financially for the church and man power-wise but it’s something we look forward to.”

As part of VBS, a parade through the streets will be held on July 20 and will culminate at  Independence Square.

A VBS Pageant will be held on July 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church.

He said that over the years they have collaborated with various churches in North America who support the number of activities being held and this year was no different.

A team of 80 persons from the First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls, Texas will host a Health and Fitness Fair along with the Church from July 19-22.

He said that on July 19 and 21 health screenings will be held on the west side of the National Museum while on July 20, the health screening will take place at Independence Square along with a mini concert.

There will be a 5k Fitness Run and Walk from the Westside of the National Museum (shoreline plaza) and registration is currently open and persons can call the Church to sign up at 465-2740 or 663-9885.

He said that children 17 years and under are free and that there is a fee of EC$10 for adults.

Awards and prizes will also be given for the event and will be handed out on July 22 at Government House at a National Rally which begins at 6.00 p.m.

“The emphasis this year, unlike last year which was Fine Arts, is Health so the team will also be doing a lot of work with the hospital, and making a number of presentations to the hospital in terms of medical supplies,” said Connor.

There will also be free dental screening to be held at the Newtown Clinic from July 19-21.

The visiting group, which includes a dance group ‘Motions’ will also conduct a dance workshop on July 19, at the Dr. William Connor School at 7:00 p.m.

The activities continue with a Sports Camp for children at the Patsy Allers Playing Field on July 23 at 1:00 p.m.

“All of the events are free and open to anyone and it will be a whole lot of excitement during a two-week period so we would really like people to come out and participate,” Connor said.
