Press Release (GMSS)

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, July 12th, 2012  --  Under the theme, ‘Achieving Excellence through Scholastic Perseverance’, the George Moody Stuart School’s (GMSS) Class of 2012 lived up to the school’s high standards with the successful hosting of an impressive ceremony.

On 03 July, the sanctuary at the Zion Moravian Church was exquisitely beautified with a refreshing and colourful display of flowers, balloons and ribbons in orange and gold. To commence the two-hour ceremony, the graduands, elegantly attired in brown and white gowns and matching caps anxiously processed with glowing faces to delightful applauses from the appreciative gathering.

Past student, Ms Terrelah Byron ably chaired the proceedings and used the opportunity to provide a glimpse of her years at GMSS.  There was the singing of the National Anthem by Graduand Janiqua Williams, an opening prayer by Graduand Zhariyon Clarke, a solo by past student Kaylor Bass and musical accompaniment provided by past student Christian Nathaniel.

All in attendance joined in the lusty singing of ‘Father Lead Me Day by Day’, which was followed by the Scripture Reading taken from Hebrews 6:11-12 and 10:35-36 and read by current students Maija Lake and Sudan Wilson.  Past students Joshua Simmonds and Shaquille Benjamin performed a touching selection on their clarinets.  An inspiring rendition of ‘Song of the Children’ was done by students from Grades 2 to 6.  Mrs Elizabeth Condell, Principal provided an informative overview of the 2012 Academic Year and encouraged parents to continue supporting their children and the GMSS.

Meanwhile, the graduands expressed their talents and thoughts through a poem entitled Graduation Friendship, a song and prayer, reflections about their experiences at GMSS, a Kiss of Peace to their parents and teachers and ended their contributions with the Candle Lighting ceremony.

The main item for the afternoon was an address by Mrs Rita Cable, a retired educator and parent of former GMSS students.  She encouraged the Class of 2012 to dream, to set high standards and to embrace lifelong learning.  She went on to remind them that they were the ‘Nation’s hope for tomorrow’.

Copping top awards for the 2012 Academic Year were Aleksei Burroughs (1st Place), Janiqua Williams (2nd) and Zhariyon Clarke (3rd).  The Test of Standards (overall) awardees were Khadeisia Sutton, Aleksei Burroughs and Jaden Douglas.  Individual Test of Standards awards went to Khadeisia Sutton (Social Studies), Jaden Douglas (Science), Janiqua Williams (Language Arts) and J’son Berridge (Mathematics).

Daria James, a Grade 5 student offered expressions of thanks to all those who contributed to the ceremony.

She made special mention of the graduands and their families, Mrs Elizabeth Condell, Principal, Mrs Jillian Archibald, Deputy Principal and the current Grade 6 Teacher and current and former teachers of the GMSS.

We give thanks to God for His many blessings on another successful academic year.
