Bomb scare at Kajola Kristada turns out to be a drill

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE emergency and evacuation plan of C. A. Paul Industrial Site plant, Kajola Kristada, was set into full motion this morning after a bomb scare developed, which was later been declared “a drill”.

Information reaching SKNVibes suggested that shortly before 11:00 a.m., a call was received by Kajola and it was indicated that a bomb was planted in the company’s shipment container.

This publication also understands that as a result, the alarm on the compound was activated and the compound was evacuated with immediate effect.

When SKNVibes arrived on the scene, it was discovered that the roads through which Kajola could be accessed were cordoned and manned by members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force. Kajola staff and management were seen standing on the compound which sits on the opposite side of Jaro, while the necessary investigations into the incident were being made.

In less than a half-hour’s time, the workers were allowed to file back into the building and resume their duties.

Security Safety and Loss Prevention Consultant for Kajola Lincoln David-Pelle spoke to SKNVibes shortly after the incident occurred and explained that at that point he did not know the reason for the evacuation, but commended both the emergency teams and Kajola’s staff for their quick response.

“About 10:45am, the emergency alarm went off and it is part of Kajola’s policy that when that happens the emergency services and the police are to be called in to investigate what is happening…And that is what happened today. I am very proud of our emergency services. They responded in quick time and that gives me confidence that our country is in good hands.

“The reaction of the employees was right up to par with what the company’s looking for, and what I would hope the country is looking for is to prove that we have persons who are safety-minded in responding to the sounding of alarms.”

He later contacted this media house and indicated that, according to his investigations, there was no literal threat but that a drill exercise was carried out. And also, according to him, a post mortem of the exercise would be conducted following which any flaws in the emergency plan would be addressed as soon as possible.
