Charlestown, Nevis – FIVE individuals who recently appeared at the Charlestown Magistrate’s Court were fined a total of EC$6 300 for various offences, and among them were two females on crack cocaine and marijuana charges.
Appearing before Her Worship Jasmine Clarke on Tuesday (July 10) were Jean Kelly of Hamilton Village, Nevis, charged with possession of cannabis sativa; while Kinshenell Benjamin of St. Paul’s Village, St. Kitts and Garfield Jeffers of Cotton Ground, Nevis were charged with possession of crack cocaine.
Jean Kelly was convicted and fined EC$1 000, which is to be paid in six months or, if in default, serve six months imprisonment with hard labour.
She was also convicted and fined EC$800 for battery committed on Sunday, April 29, 2012, and has three to pay the fine or serve three months imprisonment with hard labour.
The other female, Benjamin of sister isle St. Kitts, was convicted and fined EC$1 500 to be paid in three months or, if in default, will have to spend six months with hard labour at her Majesty’s Prison.
On Monday (July 9), a joint operation conducted by three departments of the Nevis Division of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force had executed a search warrant on the Low Street, Charlestown premises of Ibol Tyson.
That search had resulted in the find of a quantity of crack cocaine and both Tyson and Benjamin were formally arrested and charged with possession of crack cocaine.
Jeffers, the lone male charged with possession of the illegal drug, was also convicted. He was fined EC$500 to be paid in eight months or serve an eighth-month term of imprisonment with hard labour.
Appearing at the same court the said day were Marlod Kelly of Hamilton Village and Lakenisin Seenarine of Pinney's.
Kelly was convicted and fined EC$500 to be paid in three months or serve three months imprisonment with hard labour for being armed with an offensive weapon, while Seenarine was convicted and fined for four traffic offences.
He was fined EC$500 for driving without insurance to be paid in three months or serve three months in prison with hard labour; for taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, he was fined EC$500 to be paid in six months or, if in default, serve three months with hard labour; for driving without a licence, he was fined EC$500 to be paid in three months or serve three months in prison with hard labour; and for driving without due care and attention he was fined another EC$500, which is also to be paid within three months or he will have to serve a three-month term in prison also with hard labour.
And the police have informed that Tyrone Nisbett of Christ Church was arrested and charged for dangerous driving. He was involved in an accident on June 29 in which a juvenile was injured.
