    POLICE/COURT ROUND UP

    ~~Adz:Right~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ALTHOUGH the long holiday weekend can be considered relatively calm, a number of persons were arrested and charged for violation of the laws of the land.

     

    ARRESTS

     

    Information in a police press release state that four young men were taken into custody on Saturday and slapped with drug-related charges, which resulted from an operation conducted by members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

     

    “On Saturday 2nd August 2008, Police conducted stop and search operations in the Basseterre area and a number of individuals and vehicles were stopped and searched for illegal drugs, arms and ammunition. Cecil Clarke of Monkey Hill, Mervin Jeremy of Thibou Avenue, Denzil ‘Para’ Williams of Fort Thomas Road and Omax Bye of St. Johnson Village were all arrested and charged with the offence of possession of cannabis after the car they were travelling in was stopped and searched and a quantity of marijuana was found.”

     

    In several other unrelated incidents, 11 persons were arrested and charged with various infractions.

     

    Newton Ground resident Vernon Lake was arrested and charged with “rape” and “indecent assault”, offences which, according to police, were committed on July 27, 2008.

     

    “Making use of threatening language”, “making use of indecent language”, “throwing missiles”, “battery on police”, “resisting arrest” and “assault” are the charges slapped on Half Way Tree resident Jason Thomas.

     

    Two West Farm residents, Anthony Daniel and Sheldon Woolward, were on Friday arrested and charged jointly with one count of “wounding with intent”, reportedly committed on July 25, 2008.

     

    For a June 21, 2008 offence of “robbery”, Sandy Pointer Jermaine Browne was arrested and charged.

     

    Cleve David of Government Road, Nevis and Kevin Jeffers of Lime Kiln, St. Kitts were arrested and charged with unrelated and respective incidents of “building breaking and larceny” and “making use of insulting language”

     

    Joseph Hanley, popularly known as Limes of Fiennes Avenue, was arrested and charged for having cannabis in his possession.

     

    Leroy Daniel of Water Works, Cayon; Elvis Roberts of Sarah Bowry, Upper Cayon; and Donald Amory of Prospect, Nevis were arrested and charged with drug-related offences. While Daniel and Roberts were jointly charged with “possession of cannabis” and “cultivation of cannabis”, Amory was charged with “possession of cannabis”.

     

    Tabernacle resident Timothy Akers was arrested and charged for driving under the influence of alcohol.

     

    All persons mentioned above will receive an opportunity to appear before one of the Federation’s Magistrate’s Court to answer to their charges.

     


    CONVICTION

     

    A message was sent at the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court recently when a young lady was fined for finding a cellular phone which she retained for her own use.

     

    The Cayon resident was arrested and charged on Friday, August 1, 2008 with the offence of “larceny by finding” after she found a cell phone belonging to Lionel Francis and failed to ascertain who was the owner and kept it for her own use.

     

    Having appeared before the court, she was convicted and ordered to pay $600 compensation to Francis, a sum which she has to pay by August 29 or serve one month at her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    “The phone was subsequently returned to Mr. Francis”, the press release informs.
