Government Committed to Providing Portable Water for all Residents

~~Adz:Left~~Roadtown; Tortola: Thursday, August 7 – The increased demand for water throughout the Territory has prompted Government to implement a water distribution schedule on Tortola, starting August 11.

Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications and Works Mr. John Samuel said the reason for the distribution schedule is to allow a continuous flow of water on Tortola for all residents.  “In an effort to evenly distribute the water throughout the Territory, a distribution schedule will be in effect commencing August 11,” Mr. Samuel explained.

“Even though it is necessary to implement the distribution schedule, allowances were made in the creation of the schedule for water to be available more often than not. We are therefore asking the public to monitor the schedule, and replenish your water storage system on the days that water will be available in your area to ensure that your supply can cover the days when water is not available.” Mr. Samuel said.

In addition to the implementation of the water distribution schedule, the Ministry of Communications and Works is advising that water will not be sold at the Water and Sewerage compound, when water production is reduced at the Baugher’s Bay Desalination Plant.

In an effort to ensure that all reservoirs are kept at full capacity, the water supply will be turned off in most areas for approximately eight hours nightly beginning at 10:00pm.

Copies of the distribution schedule are available at the Water and Sewerage Department and Government’s Central Administration Complex. Additionally, the schedule will be posted throughout the Territory at supermarkets and other local businesses.  The schedule will also be read daily on the local radio stations.

For further information, contact the Maintenance and Distribution Unit of the Water and Sewerage Department at 494-3416.

Government remains committed to ensuring that there is an adequate and reliable supply of water for industrial, commercial and personal consumption.
