The CUT Athletic Championships began as result of the CUT's recognition of the need to provide young athletes ages 8-15 with more quality regional competition. There was also recognition by the CUT, that sports have a significant role to play in the regional integration process. These particular championships will bring together the students and teachers of the Caribbean for a few days of friendly competition, camaraderie and co-operation.

The Caribbean Union of Teachers Biennial Athletic Championships was first organized in Barbados in 1986 and has seen tremendous growth over the twenty-seven years. Many of the athletes who appear on the CUT circuit have moved on to the CAC games, CARIFTA, Pan-American, World Championship and the Olympic games.

Participants on the 14th installment of the CUT Games are expected to hail from across the region; Bermuda in the north, Suriname in the south, Belize in the west and Barbados in the east. Like other years, Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad; all of whom have captured top honours in the past, will be seeking to secure the advantage over the other territories.

However, with a number of smaller yet dynamic territories commencing their training, this year's championship is expected to be keenly contested. While in Jamaica, the athletes will encounter the uniqueness of the local culture, while continuing the rich tradition of building life-long friendships and fostering the spirit of regional integration.

All technical and financial support of SKTU team was made possible by the St. Kitts Amateur Atheletic Association (SKAAA). Hence, the St. Kitts Teachers' Union executive members and general body take this opportunity to extend appreciation to the President and members of the SKAAA for their invaluable contribution.

Also, SKTU congratulates all athletes and their supporting parents on their selection to the 2012 CUT Athletic Championship Team and anxiously awaits their success.
