~~Adz:Right~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A man was sentenced to jail and another fined after they were convicted of stealing mangoes.
Valentine Graham of Carty Alley, Newtown and Joseph ‘Limes’ Hanley of Fiennes Avenue appeared before the District “A” Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of “praedial larceny” which was committed on Wednesday.
They were both convicted and Hanley was sentenced to serve one month at His Majesty’s Prison while Graham was fined $800 to be paid within three months or, in default, he would have to serve three months in prison.
According to a police press release, the duo was found on the premises of Kelsick Wilkin and Ferdinand stealing mangoes which led to them being charged.
The next nine months of a 17-year-old’s life will be spent behind bars, for he was convicted of robbing another juvenile and beating a police officer.
The young man, who is said to be a resident of Sprott Street, was convicted of the first offence which was committed on June 12, 2008 and was sentenced to serve six months imprisonment. He was also convicted of the second offence which was committed on June 16, 2008 and was sentenced to serve three months imprisonment. The sentences are to run consecutively.
The youth was also charged with an offence of “carrying abroad an offensive weapon” and “resisting arrest”, for which he was convicted and cautioned.
For beating Charles Duggins of Dieppe Bay on January 10, 2008, Synrick Hendrickson, who is also of Dieppe Bay, was convicted of the offence and fined $500 to be paid within two months or serve one month imprisonment.
ARRESTS
John England Village residents Harsha and Chad Elliot were arrested on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 for robbery. The offence, according to police, was committed on August 2, 2008.
Also on Wednesday, Jamie Charles of Phillips Village was arrested and charged with an August 4, 2008 offence of “indecent assault”.
