    Deputy Premier unveils activities for Nevis 25th Independence Anniversary celebration

    Deputy Premier the Hon. Hensley Daniel

     

    CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – DEPUTY PREMIER and Minister of Social Development Hon. Hensley Daniel, who is also Chairman of the 25th Independence Celebrations Committee in Nevis, yesterday gave an overview of the activities that will mark the Silver Anniversary.

     

    The official launch of the activities took place at a simple ceremony held outside the building that houses Nevis Tourism Authority.

     

    Minister Daniel announced that among the activities planned was the compilation of a document containing profiles of 19 persons born in 1983 and businesses that commenced in 1983 as well as couples who were married in the year St. Kitts and Nevis became independent.

     

    He also announced that plans are afoot to stage a food fair and a national agricultural exhibition as well as a religious concert. An elocution contest was highlighted as one of the activities that have been earmarked for the celebration.    ~~Adz:Right~~

     

    There will also be an award giving ceremony to reward Nevisians who made major contributions to the development of Nevis, and a road race will take place as well as an Empire Day treat.

     

    A major highlight will be the Premier’s Gala, which will be an annual event beginning this year. A Premier’s Cocktail is outlined as one of the other activities. Cricket matches will be featured as well and the renaming of streets and Village clean-up activities will continue.

     

    During the ceremony, I-Africana drummers staged a performance while professional and renowned musician Carmella Lawrence sang a new patriotic song as Jazzique Chiverton backed her on the instruments. The duo composed the song. Also featured was the Majestic Oualians String band, and Brendon Claxton staged a performance as well.
