BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FAMILY MEMBERS of 14-year-old Morvin Mitcham, who went missing at sea on Thursday last, have expressed that although they have some hope he might be found alive, they are in need of a closure to the matter.

SKNVibes spoke with one of Mitcham’s siblings earlier today (Sunday), who indicated that if not found alive the family would prefer that his body be recovered.

“We are still hopeful that the body would wash ashore,” the sibling said and expressed the relationship that they had was one which could be classified as “normal” and filled with love.

“We had a normal older sibling/younger sibling relationship. We had our disagreements here and there but I love him a lot and I miss him. I miss him more in the evenings than in the day because we spent most of out time together in the evening. He was very easy going and friendly. I am just trying to stay strong and keep some hope alive.”

Morvin’s older sibling explained that on the day he went missing, a call was received and the happenings were communicated.

“I was at work and my sister called me and told me that they couldn’t find him and I thought that he just ran off and went to play or something. But then she told me he went down the Bay and they could not find him. I left my place of employment and when I got to the Bay a lot of people was there trying to see if they can find him. I am not a strong swimmer, so I did not go into to see if I could find him. Persons around the area went into the water to see if they could find him but they couldn’t.”    ~~Adz:Right~~

Morvin’s sibling told SKNVibes that while at scene they saw a Coast Guard vessel in the area combing the waters in search of the lad, but explained that it was understood that there wasn’t a diver onboard the vessel to conduct a more thorough search of the area.

This media house was unofficially informed that the search on Thursday had to be called off prematurely because the waters were too boisterous.

When contacted by this media house, Public Affairs Officer of the St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force Lieutenant Keyode Sutton explained that the search for the 14-year-old was still active and would not be called off until resources available to them have been exhausted.

“It would continue until we have exhausted all that is available to us and we don’t have any information forthcoming to us. Life is significant to us so we will continue to search. Any loss of life is serious and we will continue to do all we can to find that person.”

Lieutenant Sutton informed that persons with any information concerning the matter could contact the Cayon Police Station at 465-7258, the Defence Force camp at 466-9279/80 or the Coast Guard at 466-7312 or 465-8384.

SKNVibes understands that Morvin’s family is in the process of planning a memorial service for him, but the date and venue have not yet been decided upon.
