    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, July 23rd, 2012 – In enhancing international relations and maintaining the global reputation of the Territory, the Government of the Virgin Islands is thrusting its support behind protocol training for public officers.

     

    Currently two officers from the Premier’s Office: Assistant Secretary Ms. Najan Christopher and Personal Assistant to the Premier’s Private Secretary Ms. Nadia Demming are in Denver, Colorado attending the 11th Annual International Protocol Education Forum from July 24 to 27.
     
    According to Ms. Christopher, “Protocol dictates how communication is carried out between Governments and high profile officials as well as guides interaction between constituents and elected officials.”
     
    In addressing the significance of the training, the assistant secretary said, “The way that we conduct ourselves when doing it on behalf of the Territory, speaks on both the Territory and its people, and can positively or adversely impact our image.”
     
    Regarding the forum and workshops, Ms. Christopher said, “This training will put the BVI in a better position to design protocol unique to the BVI situation, which takes into consideration our global reputation and international relationships.”
     
    The forum, organised by the Protocol and Diplomacy International Protocol Officers’ Association, features specialised training sessions, round table discussions with protocol experts and one-on-one mentoring opportunities.
     
    Topics include cross cultural communications, commencements and ceremonies, protocol using technology, seating, supporting a high profile official and dining skills for diplomacy and business.
     
    Government is committed to providing training opportunities to enhance the Territory’s tourism product and international relations to build a better Virgin Islands.
