CDS 2005 Ltd’s Pharmacy to close August 20

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MANAGEMENT of TDC Ltd. has indicated that while it continues to work assiduously to iron out kinks in the issue of the closure of the City Drug Store 2005 Ltd. (CDS) Pharmacy, it has decided that the discontinuance will take effect on August 20, 2012.

It was only last week that rumours of closure were circulated and Head of TDC’s Human Resources (HR) Department Dennis ‘Freddie’ Knight confirmed that the Pharmacy and related operations would be closed but the other goods and services offered under the CDS’ umbrella would continue to be offered.

In giving an update on the situation, Knight informed this publication yesterday (July 23) that in addition to settling on a date of cessation, management is “working feverishly at trying to find alternative employment within the company for as many of the staff as we possibly can”.

He informed that TDC’s management “continues to have meetings and internal interviews in trying to work out the redeployment and placement of our workers…We have been able to make a noticeable dent in the original number but it will still be a significant number in the end.”

The City Drug Store 2005 Ltd. – a subsidiary of TDC Ltd. – encompasses the Pharmacy, health and beauty supplies, copy and print centre, business equipment and office supplies, grand rentals (rental of tables, tents and chairs), stationery supplies and the service and repair centre.

And according to Mr. Knight, some 50 persons are currently employed by that company, but he did not indicate the number of persons who work in the affected areas or did he indicate how many have – thus far – been successfully redeployed.

Expressing the view that placing even one person on the breadline is one too many, the HR Manager indicated that TDC’s management would continue working assiduously as it seeks to redeploy as many staffers as is possible.
