BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A young man was yesterday (July 25) taken into police custody and is currently assisting them with their investigation into the stabbing death of 22-year-old Chelston ‘Chelly’ Mills of Newton Ground.
A release from the Police Press and Public Relations Office states that the young man’s name is St. Clair ‘Scamba’ Elliot and that he is also a resident of Newton Ground.
Mills died yesterday from a stab wound to the upper left side of his chest.
On arrival at the scene, SKNVibes had observed Mills’ lifeless body lying face-up on a road known as Back Road in the vicinity of Newton Ground Primary School.
According to residents, Mills and another young man began fighting within a building on the island main road and it continued for sometime on the Back Road where he was stabbed.
One resident claimed that the police were immediately summoned but they showed one hour after the call was made.
Some individuals said that they tried to provide assistance to the victim by placing a shirt under his head and another by his wound to stop the flow of blood, but that did not help because there was a “big hole” in Mills’ chest.
The release said that officers from the Sandy Point Police Station had responded to the report at about 12:10 p.m. and that investigations are ongoing.
Mills’ death has taken to 13 the number of murders committed in the twin-island Federation for the year; 11 on St. Kitts and two on Nevis.
