BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE three St. Kitts-Nevis Attorneys-at-Law who were recently conferred the title of Her Majesty’s Counsel (QC) have been extended congratulations by the Bar Association of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
A statement issued by President of the OECS Bar Association Tapley Seaton QC reads, “The OECS Bar Association offers its congratulation and commendation to the three Attorneys-at-Law in St. Kitts and Nevis who have recently received Letters Patent under the hand of His Excellency the Governor General signalling their appointment to the rank of one of Her Majesty’s Counsel QC or Queen’s Counsel.”
Only this week the official announcement was made that Messrs. Theodore Hobson and Dr. Henry Browne of Nevis and J. Emile Ferdinand of St. Kitts were elevated to the rank of Queen’s Counsel after the relevant processes were completed.
The OECS Bar Association Chair expressed his expectation that “in the upcoming law term in September 2012, ceremonies at the High Court to mark their elevation to the inner bar will take place”.
He described the appointments as unprecedented as there has never been a situation within the Federation where three barristers-at-law were elevated to the rank of QC at any one time. He noted – however – that because of the increased number of practitioners at the bar and because years have passed since a similar appointment was made within the Federation, the number is not as significant as it seems.
Browne, Ferdinand and Hobson – as Seaton explained – are among some seven others from across the OECS. He however explained that “recognition of appointees from other OECS countries will be made by the OECS Bar Association as soon as the necessary processes are completed”.
