Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 10, 2008 (SKNIS): The Department of Youth has renewed calls for youth groups in St. Kitts to register with the government agency in order to access the many benefits offered.

Youth Director Geoffrey Hanley made the call after a presentation ceremony where the St. Peter’s Eagle Boys Club received U.S. $1,000.00 from The Cable. The club earned the monies for being an outstanding community contributor – a category which the Caribbean Cable and Telecommunications Association recognizes regionally.

The ceremony was held on Friday and co-founding member Mary Nurse received the grant from Glen Phillip of The Cable. Ms. Nurse noted that the funds will be used in a project targeting the holistic development of youth in the area.

Director Hanley explained that the club has kept his Department abreast of the many projects it has implemented on behalf of the youth populace and was the perfect candidate to receive the award. He noted that while other youth groups may be doing similar works, the Youth Department is not in a position to offer assistance unless they complete the “simple” registration process.

The Cable is part of the Caribbean Cable and Telecommunications Association which was formed in 1983. Nineteen grants were distributed region wide by the association. ~~Adz:Right~~
