BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THIEVES have struck again and this time they did it sometime in the wee hours of the morning on Friday July 27, at DuPont’s Jewelry Store located at the Pelican Mall. It is understood that the bandits were able to escape with an unknown quantity of goods.
Upon investigation, SKNVibes was reliably informed that the Philatelic Bureau and Internet Café which is also located in the Pelican Mall was the entrance the thieves used to get inside the Mall.
An employee at the General Post Office said that when they reported for work this morning at around 7:00 a.m. they noticed the back door of the Philatelic Bureau was open.
The employee said that the thieves used the back door to enter the Mall and were able to break a dead bolt on the door.
SKNVibes was also told that one of the locks on the mail sorting door was damaged but nothing was reportedly stolen.
The thieves made their way upstairs the Philatelic Bureau and Internet Café and climbed through a window which leads into the Pelican Mall where several stores are located.
DuPont Jewelry was the only store that was reportedly broken into.
There was also a window at the upstairs of the Philatelic Bureau that was broken from the outside of the building.
The Pelican Mall usually has security 24/7
Phone calls made to the owner of Duponts Jewelry, Carlton DuPont to get a comment on the incident from her were futile.
The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force are currently investigating the incident.
