BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE today (July 30) have formally charged St. Clair ‘Scamback’ Elliott of Newton Ground with the murder of Chelston ‘Chelly’ Mills.

Elliott was taken into custody on Wednesday (July 25) and was assisting police with their investigations into the stabbing death of Mills.

Mills, who also hailed from Newton Ground, was stabbed to the upper left side of his chest on the same day that Elliot was taken into custody.

An autopsy performed by Resident Pathologist Dr. Dora Marino Najdariga on Saturday (July 28) revealed that Mills death was due Thorecie Internal Haemorrhage by a sharp instrument.

When this media house had arrived at the scene, the lifeless body of the 22-year-old man was seen lying face-up on a road known as Back Road in the vicinity of Newton Ground Primary School.

According to residents, Mills and another young man began fighting within a building on the Island’s Main Road and it continued for sometime on the Back Road where he was stabbed.

One resident claimed that the police were immediately summoned but they showed up one hour after the call was made.

Some individuals said that they tried to provide assistance to the victim by placing a shirt under his head and another by his wound to stop the flow of blood, but that did not help because there was a “big hole” in Mills’ chest.

Mills’ death has taken to 13 the number of murders committed in the twin-island Federation for the year; 11 on St. Kitts and two on Nevis.
