Police charge 14 for various offences

    Three on Nevis for receiving

     

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE have arrested and charged 14 persons on St. Kitts and Nevis for a number of offences including forgery, possession of illegal drugs, building breaking and larceny.

     

    Raymond Rawlins of Malone Avenue, Basseterre was charged with forgery, committed on Monday (May 21); while Dwight Adams of Durant Avenue, Basseterre was charged with house breaking and larceny, committed on Saturday (July 21); and Alexis Decosta of Sandy Point and also Lower Shaw Avenue, Basseterre was charged with larceny, committed on Saturday (July 28).

     

    Three men are on drug-related charges.

     

    Javon Sutton of Durant Avenue, Basseterre was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to supply. These offences were committed on Wednesday (July 25); while Tandra Fyfield of Shadwell Estate was also charged with the same offences, which police claimed that he committed on Friday (July 27); and Clyde Buckley of New Road was charged with possession of cannabis, committed on Saturday (July 28).

     

    Lawson Burke of Cayon Village was charged for driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, while Vance Archibald, also of Cayon Village, was charged for driving without insurance and driving an unlicensed vehicle.

     

    Both offences were committed on Saturday (July 28).

     

    Frigate Bay residents Zohaib Liaquat and Yasar Ali Liaquat were charged for separate offences committed in Frigate Bay on Thursday (July 26).

     

    Zohaib was charged with threatening language and assault, while Yasar was charged with threatening language, two counts of insulting language, indecent language, driving without a valid or unexpired licence, driving without insurance and three counts of battery on police.

     

    On sister isle Nevis, three persons, including a woman, were charged with receiving.

     

    They are Garfield Claxton of Stoney Grove, who it is said committed the offence on Saturday (July 14); while Olga Castro of Church Ground and Damaris Hunt of Cherry Garden committed the offence on Wednesday (July 18).

     

    Meanwhile, three persons appeared in the City Magistrate’s Court and were convicted and fined a total of EC$3,006.20.

     

    Calvert Rogers of Trafalgar Village was convicted for malicious damage committed on Monday (Feb. 27) and was ordered to pay the victim EC$406.20 as compensation, plus EC$300 for damage to property. These amounts are to be paid within four months or he will have to spend four months at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    He was also placed on an EC$1 000 bond to keep the peace and be of good behaviour for six months.

     

    Antonio Johnson of Newton Ground was convicted for failing to produce insurance and was fined EC$500 to be paid by August 10, 2012. If in default, he will be imprisoned for 30 days with hard labour.

     

    And Willis Warner Phillip, also known as Bucu, of Saddlers Village was convicted for battery, committed in Saddler's Village on November 5, 2011, and was fined EC$800 to be paid by  August 17, 2012 or serve a custodial sentence of 30 days.
