PROBLEMS WITH NEVIS PAGES

By: Ursula Huggins-Whitney

I write this with some reluctance because I always have had a strong belief that Nevisians are basically fair and do not engage in vicious character assassination in spite of political preferences. We are, after all, a small community.

I was forced to abandon this belief by comments on the Nevis Pages website.

Apparently their webmaster does no checking on anything which appears. To begin, an article I wrote for SKNVibes was copied verbatim from their site with no attribution or consent (plagiarism) and sued as a starting point for a series of personal and vicious attacks on me.

The first commentator called me a “bitch” for suggesting that the NRP was a lame duck administration in response to Justice Jones' judgment calling the election in St. John's null and void. From that point, the comments became more vicious, accusing me of living on “black man's land”. As a fact, my late husband inherited this land from his Nevisian father. A further comment describes me as a drunkard – all are written in a style which shows the writer's lack of education.

Nevis Pages has enough disclaimers on for their website content that they do not accept responsibility for anything appearing on the site. It is also very difficult to locate the name of any individual who takes responsibility for this site's content. The only link they really have is to the NRP, evidenced by their content. My belief is that they have no morals or scruples about what they publish.

Perhaps someone from the NRP or Nevis Pages would like to come forward and explain who controls this site and if there is any policing of content – including comments.
