ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, July 30th, 2012  –   Seven public officers were recognised as the Government’s Employees of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2012 for exemplary service.

The ceremony, which was held last week at the Public Service Training Centre recognised Beverley Sergeant, Complaints Commission, Darlene Lettsome, Agriculture Department, Douglas Joseph, Her Majesty’s Prison, Erna Richardson, Department of Waste Management, Jermaine Baltimore, Department of Information and Public Relations, Melissa Young, Public Works Department and Wilton Frett, Department of Information Technology.

Acting Governor, Mrs. V. Inez Archibald delivering congratulatory remarks, said “It is a pleasure for me to have this opportunity to greet and welcome you to this ceremony, which has become the staple of the public service. I think you are all deserving.”

“It is telling that your friends and families are all here to support you. I express my thanks and appreciation to your friends and families for their support of you while you were out helping the public. Congratulations to all of you and I look forward to you modelling what we are about in the public service,” the Acting Governor added.

The honourees in their response, which was done through a special edition of Your GIS Review, shared the importance of hard work, putting your best foot forward and delivering exemplary service. They also expressed their thanks to their co-workers who nominated them and those individuals who have moulded them throughout their public service careers.

In addition to the seven honourees, Akilah Corbin of the Department of Human Resources, Shavorn Sprauve of the Cabinet Office, Marvin Hedrickson of the Supreme Court and Valina Brathwaite of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour were recognised as top nominees of their respective ministry and departments.

The Employee of the Quarter initiative was launched in 2005 as a means of recognising public officers who exceed expectations and set an example for their fellow public officers. This service-wide ‘ministerial level’ recognition programme is administered by the Department of Human Resources’ Employee Relations Unit.
