Pickup truck collides with motorbus in New Guinea

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - LESS than 24 hours after a motorbus overturned in the White Gate area, a collision occurred in New Guinea.

     

    At approximately 3:45 p.m. today (August 1), pickup truck P7259 driven by Winston Hippolyte of Trafalga Village collided with minibus H5378 driven by Bruce Coker of Challengers Village.

     

    According to reports, H5378 was travelling east along the Island’s Main Road from Sandy Point to Basseterre when P7259 travelling in the opposite direction tried to overtake another minibus that was parked on the left side of the road and ran into the passenger bus.

     

    Reports also stated that H5378 had swung off the road to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful. P7259 hit and damaged the entre the right side of the bus before crashing into some bushes on the left side of the road facing Sandy Point’s direction.

     

    The front section of the pickup truck as well as the right front wheel were damaged and the right side and back of the minibus were extensively damaged, but the drivers of both vehicles as well as the 10 passengers in the bus escaped injury.

     

    This is the second major traffic accident to have taken place in as many days in St. Kitts.

     

    Yesterday (July 31) at approximately 6:30 a.m., while travelling east from Dieppe Bay to St. Paul’s, motorbus HA251, overturned after the driver lost control  driving trough a pool of water.

     

    It is said that no passenger was in the bus at the time of the incident, and unconfirmed reports indicated that June 'Struppy' Berry of Newton Ground was the driver.

     

    Reports also indicated that he sustained injury to his back and was treated at the JNF Hospital.

     

    The Traffic Department of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force continues to encourage drivers to exercise caution when using the Federation's roadways.
