    St. Kitts launches Programme for Silver Jubilee Anniversary celebration

    Silver Jubilee Committee Members

     

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE National Independence Committee yesterday launched a Programme of Activities that will be held to celebrate 25 years since the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis gained independence from the British.

     

    The press conference was held at the Ocean Terrace Inn and was a follow-up to the launch of the 25th Independence Anniversary celebration held in the vicinity of the old Treasury building at the Bay Road, Basseterre on Friday, July 11.

     

    Present at the conference were Chairman of the National Jubilee Committee [NJC] the Hon. Sam Condor, Gus Williams, Stanley Franks, Gairy Knight, Victoria O’Flaherty, Geoffrey Hanley and Raphael Archibald among others. 

     

    Various persons of the NJC made brief remarks on their responsibilities are the activities they are planning for the Silver Jubilee. 

     

    Some of the activities mentioned are Agriculture Exhibitions, National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, Multi-arts Theatrical Presentation, Craft and Souvenir Exhibitions, Peace Concert, Awards Ceremony, National Calypso Competition, Silver Jubilee Independence Pageant, Silver Jubilee Independence Fireworks Display, School Concerts, Patriotic Programmes, Independence J’Ouvert Jam, Flag Raising and Community Block Parties.  ~~Adz:Right~~

     

    Hon. Condor said he and the other members of the NJC were please to provide the Programme of Activities to the public, as they have been working very hard in its planning since last year December.

     

    “These are all activities that are worthy of this 25th celebration,” said Minister Condor, who also thanked all those who have contributed to the development of the country.

     

    An Independence Magazine will also be produced by the Committee to mark this very significant milestone. According to O’Flaherty, the concept of the magazine is based on the idea that people are what make a nation. 

     

    She said they tried to highlight the contributions that Kittitians and Nevisians have made towards the development of the country over the past 25 years. 

     

    O’Flaherty added that the magazine is an impressive publication and hopes it would reach the expectations of a mature nation.

     


    The nation will be celebrating its 25th Independence Anniversary on September 19 with various activities throughout the entire month, under the theme “Pride, Development, Progress Independence 25 years of Success”.
