Two arrested in Antigua honeymoon murders

~~Adz:Left~~ST. JOHNS, Antigua-POLICE FORCE officials announced August 14 that two women have been arrested in connection with the July 27 murder of a British couple that was honeymooning in Antigua.

While the suspects’ names have not been released in order to protect further investigations, the Royal Antigua Police Force did state that the perpetrators were brought before a judge and were charged with crimes “connected to the murders” of Benjamin and Catherine Mullany.

Police Force officials said they expect more arrests to be made in the case, but would not release the names or number of people suspected to be involved.

The role the two arrested women played in the murder and the exact charges levied against them was also not specified.

Thursday’s arrests marked the first breakthrough in the case since the incident occurred. While several persons were held for questioning in the days following the murders, including two security guards, it was determined that they were not involved.

The Mullanys, who both hailed from Wales, were murdered around 4:55 a.m. on the last day of their two-week honeymoon at the Coscos Hotel and Restaurant in southwest Antigua.

Mrs. Mullany was pronounced dead at the scene of the crime due to a gunshot wound to the head and Mr. Mullany remained comatose for a week before passing away due to complications from a bullet that was lodged in his brain.

The Police Force and Scotland Yard detectives working the case have stated that they believe the double murder was the result of botched robbery.
